Do you want to know the truth?

I didn’t have much confidence or self-belief when I was a teenager. I wasn’t naturally athletic. I was overweight and was one of the last to get picked for school sports teams. I didn’t enjoy PE very much. My comforts came from ice cream and biscuits.

That seems such a long time ago now. Life changed and I evolved and that unfit overweight teen was now in his 20s and somehow started learning to row at university.

An array of excellent coaches mentored and supported me over the years, instilling belief and self-confidence. I won a few races and I lost few too. I even became a rowing coach myself, teaching as far away as New Zealand.

A new beginning

By 2009 I realised that my working life tied to a desk wasn’t my life’s purpose, and by the following year I had retrained as a fitness and motivation coach - qualifying as a Master Trainer through the European Institute of Fitness. I soon found myself working full-time as a personal trainer for the prestigious Hogarth Group in West London and later as an exercise referral specialist for Kingston Public Health and the NHS.

Fitness solutions for busy people

In 2015, following a move to Dorking, Revitalise Fitness was born.
I didn’t just want to offer a standard gym or fitness training service. We all know what’s good for us. We’ve already got access to plenty of healthy recipes, diet plans and workouts from magazines or Youtube but do these inspire you to get up and start tomorrow and maintain it?

Revitalise Fitness is not just about energising workouts – it’s about tackling the deep, core issues that may have held you back in the past. How do you start? How do you get into the right mindset to lose weight? How do you resolve back pain before exercising? How do you know what the most effective exercise routine is for you?

We’re all human – we want to be valued; we want to be listened to; we want to enjoy our lives. Who’s helping you enjoy the journey and make life-long changes? Why do you think your first consultation with me often lasts up to 90 minutes?!

That is the essence of Revitalise Fitness. I make time for you! I’ve experienced many of the issues that you have. I know how you feel and how to change things. I can help you find what works for you.

Though I admit I do still have that sweet tooth…

This is me opposite in 2002, painfully finishing a London Marathon (having started too quick – but it taught me a few lessons). I went on to run many half marathons and other distance events. I’ve served as a Chairman at Barnes Runners. I’ve been a guest speaker to sport and exercise students at St Mary's University and as a fitness consultant I have contributed to fitness and exercise book publications produced by Dorling Kindersley.

When I’m not running my business, occasionally you’ll find me on the Thames, still ‘messing around’ in rowing boats; luring others into rowing, doing an occasional running event or parkrun. Give me a mountain or fell-walking challenge and you’ll also find me there, whether it’s the Yorkshire Dales, Lake District, Surrey Hills or an Alpine trail. I love the outdoors!


My qualifications

In addition to having over 15 years rowing coaching experience, I am a qualified Master Trainer through the European Institute of Fitness, and I hold level 3 specialisms in strength and sports conditioning, clinical exercise and exercise referral, nutrition and weight management, core strengthening and functional training. I am a British Rowing Level 2 Coach; hold a level 3 certificate in Occupational Health and Safety. I hold public liability insurance and you can also find me on the National Register of Personal Trainers.
